Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, touched down in Brisbane on Wednesday to attend the opening ceremony.

Nigeria won 36 medals (11 Gold, 11 Silver and 14 Bronze) at the last edition of the Commonwealth Games which held in Glasgow, Scotland 2014.

With a well-publicised cricket scandal having recently brought Australian sports into international disrepute, many are hoping that a great performance by the Australian Commonwealth team will put an end to these negative headlines.

Bode Abiodun will take on Javen Choong from Malaysia and Terry Su from Belize later in the day in his remaining games while Jamiu will Rohit Pagarani from Belize. Team England, third out, was led by flagbearer Alistair Brownlee, a champion triathlete.

The wins kept coming as Langridge and Ellis, the latter also making his Commonwealth debut, saw off the challenge of Kasirye and Ekiring in the men's doubles.

It was the points against the serve that proved the clincher, the Englishman winning 23 to his opponent's seven, over the line in just over half an hour in the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
